The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, completed the grueling Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend, climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales—Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon—within 24 hours. The 44-year-old princess undertook the challenge to raise awareness for cancer care and support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, where she received treatment.
Kate, who disclosed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and later announced she was in remission, emphasized the importance of holistic healthcare in her message. She described the challenge as a way to explore life beyond diagnosis and give back to others facing similar struggles. The princess was supported by Mountain Rescue during the trek and was greeted by her family, including her husband, Prince William, and their three children, at the final peak in Wales.
The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing a total of 23 miles with a vertical ascent of 10,052 feet. Kate wore practical outdoor gear from the Swedish brand Fjallraven, including a £195 backpack and a navy baseball cap, while adding a personal touch with birthstone earrings. Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate is the first member of the Royal Family to complete the challenge.
In a video message, Kate shared her motivation, stating that cancer affects not just the body but also emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being. She highlighted the ripple effects on families, friendships, and work. The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, which supports the hospital where Kate received treatment, benefits from the funds raised through her efforts.
