Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has expressed skepticism about the latest tip in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, an 84-year-old woman who vanished on February 1, 2024. The sheriff's doubts come after a person emailed TMZ claiming to have a phone with video of the 'main suspect,' along with photos, names, addresses, and a bitcoin address tied to the case. The sender demanded payment in exchange for the information.
Sheriff Nanos dismissed the email's legitimacy during a radio interview, citing previous fake ransom notes in the case. He praised genuine tips but noted that widespread attention has led to an influx of unverified claims. The FBI has been forwarded similar emails in the past.
Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie, Nancy's daughter and an anchor for NBC's Today show, returned to work 64 days after her mother's disappearance. Reports indicate she was initially dismayed by rumors suggesting she might not return to the show. On her first day back, she wore yellow in support of her mother but avoided discussing the case on air.
The investigation remains ongoing, with no confirmed leads or suspects identified by authorities.
