Actor Chad Lowe and his wife, producer Kim Painter, announced on Tuesday the death of their 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Lowe, following a family statement shared with media outlets including People and Page Six. The family described Fiona as a loving, smart, creative girl who loved to dance, and called her the 'light of their lives'. The statement did not disclose the cause of death but included a reference to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, urging those struggling with mental health to seek help.
The family’s statement read: 'We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was adored by her sisters and deeply loved by her parents. Her passing is devastating for our entire family, and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.'
Fiona is survived by her parents and two sisters: Mabel, 17, and Nixie, 10. She was born in November 2012 and celebrated her 13th birthday in late 2024. The family previously faced another crisis in January 2025, when their home in the Palisades was destroyed in a wildfire that killed 12 people and damaged over 6,500 structures. Lowe shared a photo of his daughters surveying the remains of their home, calling their resilience 'nothing short of remarkable'.
Friends and colleagues of the family offered public condolences following the announcement. Actor Cary Elwes, who starred alongside Rob and Chad Lowe in the 1984 film Oxford Blues, posted on Instagram: 'Our hearts are broken for you all. Thinking of you and praying for you. Always.' Actress Marlee Matlin, a friend of Lowe’s for nearly four decades, wrote on social media: 'My heart is broken into pieces. Fly high, Fiona Lowe. Love you Chad and Kim.'
Lowe, 58, is the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe and was previously married to actress Hilary Swank from 1997 to 2007. He won an Emmy Award in 1993 for his role in Life Goes On and has appeared in television series such as Pretty Little Liars and Supergirl. Painter, 52, is a producer and the couple married in 2010.
