Federal prison officials have returned Sean 'Diddy' Combs to solitary confinement at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey following an investigation into allegations of special treatment he received while incarcerated.
Combs’ release date moved up to January 2028 after multiple adjustments to his 50-month sentence for transporting prostitutes across state lines under the Mann Act. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed his updated release date as January 21, 2028, following earlier adjustments from June 2028 to February 2028.
Investigation into alleged prison privileges
An NBC News report published Tuesday detailed claims from four former inmates who shared space with Combs in the prison unit. The sources alleged that Combs maintained a lavish lifestyle behind bars, including:
- Access to contraband cellphones, which he allegedly used to scroll Instagram and view explicit content sent by a former girlfriend.
- A jailbroken tablet reportedly used to watch movies and a documentary about him produced by 50 Cent.
- Inmates performing chores such as cooking meals (including curry chicken, pizza, and empanadas), cleaning, making his bed, and doing his laundry.
- Chinese-style massages provided by fellow inmates.
- Premium liquor allegedly smuggled in by guards and shared with a small group of inmates on weekends.
- Purchase of prescription antidepressants (Remeron, known as “rem-roms” in prison) from other inmates for mood-enhancing effects.
The sources claimed Combs funded these privileges by depositing thousands of dollars monthly into the commissary accounts of inmates working for him, with funds provided by people outside the prison.
Prison response and Combs’ representative
A spokesperson for Combs, Juda S. Engelmayer, stated in response to the NBC News report: “There is no way we can independently verify those rumors.” Engelmayer later added in a separate statement: “The continued scrutiny of every mundane detail of Sean Combs's life in prison has reached the point where the media characterizes ordinary prison life as news. The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence within the rules and he patiently awaits the court's decision on his appeal.”
Solitary confinement and prior incident
Combs was previously placed in solitary confinement in July following an altercation with another inmate. Prison officials confirmed to TMZ that returning an inmate to solitary during an investigation is standard procedure.
Background on Combs’ incarceration
Combs, 56, was sentenced in October 2024 to 50 months in federal prison after being convicted on two counts of interstate transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act. His initial projected release date was June 2028, but adjustments have moved it forward to January 2028.
The Mann Act conviction stemmed from allegations that Combs transported women across state lines for drug-fueled sex performances known as “freak-offs.” No additional charges related to the alleged prison privileges have been publicly filed.
Footage and inmate accounts
NBC News reviewed footage obtained from inside the facility, which appears to show Combs using a contraband phone. Multiple inmates corroborated the claims of special treatment, with one stating: “This is not some normal s--- you see in jail. This is some rich s---. It looks crazy, but again, it’s Diddy.” Another inmate told the outlet: “Hell yeah, I drank with him,” referring to the alleged consumption of smuggled Hennessy.
The claims of lavish prison conditions have drawn significant attention, with some observers questioning how such privileges could be maintained in a federal facility. No official from the Bureau of Prisons has publicly commented on the specific allegations beyond confirming Combs’ return to solitary confinement.
