The Indiana Fever secured their first win of the season with an 87-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday night. The game was marked by intense moments, including a heated exchange between Indiana's Caitlin Clark and Los Angeles' Cameron Brink.
In the first quarter, Brink rejected a layup attempt by Clark, prompting an explicit outburst from the Sparks forward. "Get that fckng sh*t outta here," Brink shouted, drawing attention from fans and players alike. Despite the early spark, the Sparks struggled defensively, allowing the Fever to build a 14-point halftime lead.
Clark, who finished with 24 points and nine assists, received her first technical foul of the season during halftime after arguing with a referee. She later acknowledged the foul, stating, "I think the refs are doing a tremendous job. I deserved the technical they gave me."
The Fever's Kelsey Mitchell contributed 23 points, while the Sparks' Kelsey Plum led all scorers with 25 points. The Sparks committed 19 turnovers, which the Fever converted into 24 points. Indiana's defense held strong, limiting Los Angeles to 78 points despite a late rally.
The Sparks, who dropped their second consecutive game, saw contributions from Dearica Hamby (16 points, 8 rebounds) and Rae Burrell (10 points). The Fever's win comes after a season-opening loss to the Dallas Wings, while the Sparks remain winless to start the season.
